Ingredients
Butter and Sugar
- ¾ cup unsalted butter (1½ sticks), sliced into pats, plus more for greasing the pan
- 1½ cups light or dark brown sugar
Wet Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
Add-ins
- ½ cup chopped walnuts, plus more for topping
- ½ cup white chocolate chips, plus more for topping
Instructions
- Brown the Butter: Melt the butter in a light-colored pan over medium heat, stirring constantly for 5 to 10 minutes until it smells nutty and the milk solids turn golden brown. The butter will foam initially and then subside as it browns.
- Cool the Butter: Immediately pour the browned butter into a large heatproof bowl and let it cool slightly to avoid cooking the eggs when mixed.
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch baking dish and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: Add the brown sugar, eggs, egg yolk, and vanilla extract to the cooled browned butter. Whisk these together until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Sprinkle the sea salt over the mixture and whisk to incorporate. Then add the flour and gently fold it in with a spatula until just combined—avoid overmixing to keep the blondies tender.
- Fold in Add-ins: Carefully fold in the chopped walnuts and white chocolate chips, distributing them evenly throughout the batter.
- Transfer and Top: Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan using a spatula. Press additional walnuts and white chocolate chips on top for garnish and added texture.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 28 to 30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and small cracks form on the surface.
- Cool and Serve: Let the blondies cool completely in the pan before slicing into 16 bars and serving for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Use a light-colored pan for browning butter to better observe the color change and prevent burning.
- Ensure the browned butter is slightly cooled before mixing with eggs to avoid scrambling.
- Feel free to substitute or add other mix-ins such as chocolate chips, dried fruit, or different nuts.
- Line the baking pan with parchment paper to make removal of the blondies easier and cleaner.
- Do not overbake. Blondies should be just set with a chewy texture.
