Description

Butterfinger Puppy Chow is a sweet and crunchy snack mix that combines crispy rice cereal with a luscious blend of milk chocolate, peanut butter, and crushed Butterfinger candy bars, all coated in powdered sugar. Perfect for parties or a delightful treat any time of day, this gluten-free recipe is easy to make and irresistibly delicious.

Ingredients

Cereal and Candy

  • 10 cups rice Chex cereal
  • 2 1/2 cups Butterfingers, crushed

Chocolate Mixture

  • 1 1/2 cups milk chocolate, chopped
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups peanut butter

Coating

  • 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chocolate mixture: Setup a double boiler and add the chopped milk chocolate, unsalted butter, and peanut butter to the top bowl. Use a spatula to stir continuously until the mixture is completely smooth and well combined, ensuring no lumps remain.
  2. Combine cereal and candy: In a large mixing bowl, add the rice Chex cereal along with the crushed Butterfinger pieces, mixing gently to distribute the candy evenly throughout the cereal.
  3. Coat the cereal with the chocolate mixture: Pour the smooth chocolate and peanut butter mixture over the cereal and Butterfingers in the bowl. Gently combine using a wooden spoon to evenly coat all the cereal pieces and candy, taking care not to break the cereal.
  4. Add powdered sugar coating: Sprinkle the powdered sugar over the coated cereal mixture. Gently toss again to ensure every piece is fully coated with the powdered sugar, creating the signature puppy chow finish.
  5. Store and serve: Seal the coated mixture in an air-tight container or a Ziploc bag to keep it fresh. Serve immediately or store for snacking at a later time.

Notes

  • Use smooth peanut butter for the best texture in the chocolate mixture.
  • Make sure the Butterfingers are crushed into bite-sized pieces for even distribution.
  • Double boiling prevents the chocolate and peanut butter from burning.
  • Store the puppy chow in a cool, dry place to maintain crispiness.
  • For a more intense chocolate flavor, use semi-sweet or dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate.
