Description

These adorable Chocolate Covered Strawberry Turkeys are a festive and fun Thanksgiving treat perfect for involving kids in the kitchen. Featuring juicy strawberries, crunchy pretzel legs with marshmallow drumsticks, and a smooth chocolate coating, they make a delightful and visually charming dessert to celebrate the holiday.

Ingredients

Strawberries

  • 18 medium strawberries, washed and dried very well

Turkey Legs

  • 9 pretzel sticks, broken in half
  • 18 mini marshmallows

Chocolate Coating

  • 8 ounces good quality milk or dark chocolate or melting wafers, chopped
  • Optional: white chocolate dip (2 ounces white chocolate), candy eyes

Instructions

  1. Prepare Strawberries: Wash the strawberries carefully and dry them thoroughly, ideally leaving them on paper towels for a couple of hours to ensure no moisture remains. Line a baking sheet or counter with parchment or wax paper for placing finished turkeys.
  2. Make Turkey Legs: Insert one mini marshmallow into the broken side of each pretzel half to create the turkey legs and drumsticks. Set aside.
  3. Melt Chocolate: Place the chopped milk or dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt at 50% power in 30-second intervals, stirring in between until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
  4. Attach Drumsticks: Dip the marshmallow end of each pretzel leg into the melted chocolate, then press the chocolate-coated marshmallow onto the side of a strawberry. Hold in place for about 30 seconds until it adheres firmly. Repeat for all turkey legs. Chill in the refrigerator for 5 minutes to let them harden.
  5. Dip Strawberries: Holding each strawberry by the stem, dip it into the melted chocolate, turning to coat the entire berry and the attached legs evenly. Allow excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl before transferring to the parchment-lined baking sheet. Repeat for all strawberries. Chill for 5 to 10 minutes until the chocolate coating hardens.
  6. Optional Decoration: If desired, melt white chocolate using the same method and dip the bottoms of the marshmallow legs to create turkey feet. Add candy eyes for more character.
  7. Store and Serve: Refrigerate the finished chocolate covered strawberry turkeys until firm and serve chilled. Enjoy your festive treat and don't forget to leave a comment and rating!

Notes

  • Tip: Wash strawberries the day before making this recipe to ensure they are completely dry for better chocolate adhesion.
  • White chocolate dip: Melt 2 ounces of white chocolate similarly to the milk chocolate. Dip bottoms of the marshmallow legs for turkey feet decoration.
  • Keep finished turkeys refrigerated to maintain freshness and chocolate firmness.
  • Use good-quality chocolate for the best taste and smooth coating.
  • Ensure strawberries are fully dry before dipping to avoid chocolate seizing or not sticking properly.
