Description

This easy Chocolate Pecan Pie is a delightful twist on the classic pecan pie, combining a gooey pecan filling with rich chocolate chips nestled in a flaky pie crust. Perfect for holiday celebrations like Thanksgiving or Christmas, this pie features a luscious blend of chocolate, pecans, and a sweet syrup-based custard, topped with whole pecans and optional flake sea salt for added texture and flavor.

Ingredients

Pie Crust

  • 1 unbaked pie crust

Filling

  • 1 1/2 to 2 cups pecan halves, plus whole pecans for the top
  • 1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 3/4 cup light or dark corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

For Serving (Optional)

  • Whipped cream
  • Chocolate shavings
  • Flake sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) to prepare for baking the pie.
  2. Prepare Pie Crust and Add Pecans and Chocolate: Press the unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish, ensuring it is evenly lined. Refrigerate the crust until ready to assemble the filling. When ready, evenly spread 1 1/2 to 2 cups of chopped pecan halves and the 1 cup of chocolate chips or chopped chocolate across the bottom of the crust.
  3. Mix Filling: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the 3 eggs until well blended. Add in 3/4 cup corn syrup, 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar, 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder, 4 tablespoons melted and slightly cooled unsalted butter, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, and 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt. Whisk the mixture thoroughly until all ingredients are fully combined and smooth.
  4. Assemble the Pie: Pour the filling mixture evenly over the pecans and chocolate in the crust. Arrange whole pecans on top, gently pressing them lightly into the filling so they stay in place during baking.
  5. Bake the Pie: Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 50 minutes to 1 hour, or until the edges of the pie are golden brown and the center is set but may still jiggle slightly when nudged. To prevent the crust from burning, place a pie crust shield or tent a piece of aluminum foil over the pie halfway through the baking time.
  6. Cool the Pie: Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and set it on a cooling rack. Allow it to cool completely for about 2 hours to let the filling fully set and flavors meld together.
  7. Finish and Serve: Optionally sprinkle the top of the pie with flake sea salt for an extra flavor dimension. Serve slices with a dollop of whipped cream and a few chocolate shavings if desired. Enjoy your festive chocolate pecan pie!
