Description
This Waldorf Salad recipe is a refreshing and simple dish combining crisp apples, celery, grapes, and toasted nuts with a creamy yogurt-based dressing. Perfect as a light lunch or a fresh side dish, it's tossed with butter lettuce leaves for a delightful crunch and vibrant flavor.
Ingredients
Dressing
- ¼ cup whole milk Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon honey
- ¾ teaspoon sea salt
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Salad
- 2 tart apples, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, chopped
- 2 cups thinly sliced celery (3 to 4 ribs), plus celery leaves for garnish
- 1 cup grapes, halved
- 1 cup walnuts or pecans, toasted and chopped
- ⅔ cup chopped fresh parsley, plus more for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the dressing: In a large bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, mayonnaise, fresh lemon juice, honey, sea salt, and several grinds of freshly ground black pepper until smooth and well combined.
- Add the salad ingredients: To the bowl with the dressing, add the chopped apples, thinly sliced celery, halved grapes, toasted and chopped walnuts or pecans, and chopped fresh parsley. Gently toss everything together until all ingredients are evenly coated with the dressing.
- Season and serve: Taste the salad and adjust the seasoning by adding more salt or pepper if needed. Transfer the Waldorf salad to a serving platter, garnish with additional parsley and celery leaves, and serve immediately, optionally tossing with butter lettuce leaves as a fresh base.
Notes
- Use tart apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best balance of sweetness and tartness.
- Toast nuts lightly in a dry skillet over medium heat for a few minutes until fragrant to enhance flavor.
- The salad is best served fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 2 hours before serving.
- For a lighter option, replace mayonnaise with extra Greek yogurt or use a mayo alternative.
- Adding butter lettuce leaves adds a pleasant crisp texture and makes it a more substantial side or lunch.
