Ingredients
Shrimp Mixture
- 2 pounds jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup mozzarella, grated
- 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, freshly grated
Topping
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
For Serving (Optional)
- Fresh parsley, finely chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 2-quart baking dish using butter or a nonstick spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix shrimp with seasonings and cheese: In a large bowl, combine the peeled and deveined jumbo shrimp with mayonnaise, Old Bay seasoning, minced garlic, and black pepper. Stir well to coat the shrimp evenly. Then, add the grated mozzarella and freshly grated parmesan cheese, stirring once again until incorporated.
- Transfer to baking dish: Pour the shrimp mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- Prepare breadcrumb topping: In a small bowl, mix together the melted unsalted butter with the panko breadcrumbs until the crumbs are coated.
- Add breadcrumb topping and bake: Sprinkle the buttery breadcrumb mixture evenly over the shrimp in the baking dish. Place the dish in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the shrimp are cooked through and the topping is crispy. The shrimp are done when they reach an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
- Broil for extra crispiness (optional): If desired, switch your oven to broil and place the casserole under the broiler for 1 to 2 minutes to further brown and crisp the topping. Watch carefully to avoid burning.
- Serve: Remove from the oven and garnish with finely chopped fresh parsley, if using. Serve immediately and enjoy the crispy shrimp casserole!
Notes
- Ensure shrimp are thawed completely and well drained if using frozen to avoid excess moisture.
- Use jumbo shrimp for best texture and presentation; smaller shrimp will still work but may change bite size.
- Old Bay seasoning is key to adding seafood-friendly flavor but can be adjusted to taste.
- Broiling is optional but gives a nice golden color and crisp top.
- This casserole can be prepared ahead and refrigerated before baking; just add a few extra minutes to the cooking time if chilled.
- For a low-sodium option, reduce or omit added salt and use low-sodium Old Bay or seasoning alternatives.
- Use freshly grated parmesan for best flavor and texture.
