Optional add-ins like cinnamon, turmeric, and orange peel elevate the flavor, and natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup add a delicate sweetness.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 (1-inch) piece fresh ginger root, thinly sliced
- 1 cup water
Optional Add-Ins
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 (1-inch) piece fresh turmeric, thinly sliced
- 2 strips orange peel
- Honey or maple syrup, to taste
- Lemon or orange round, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the ingredients: Thinly slice a 1-inch piece of fresh ginger root. If using, prepare optional add-ins such as a cinnamon stick, a 1-inch piece of fresh turmeric sliced thinly, and two strips of orange peel.
- Simmer the tea: Combine the sliced ginger and water in a small pot. Add the optional ingredients if desired. Place the pot over medium heat and bring to a gentle simmer. Maintain the simmer for 5 minutes, adjusting the heat as necessary to keep the liquid lightly bubbling without boiling vigorously.
- Strain the tea: Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the tea directly into a mug to remove the ginger slices and any other solid add-ins. Discard the solids.
- Sweeten and garnish: Sweeten the ginger tea by stirring in honey or maple syrup according to your taste. Garnish with a slice of lemon or orange, if desired, for a fresh touch and additional citrus aroma.
Notes
- You can adjust the ginger quantity for stronger or milder spice according to your preference.
- Turmeric adds an earthy flavor and health benefits but can stain cookware and clothing.
- If using honey, add it after the tea cools slightly to preserve its nutrients.
- Orange peel should be fresh and unwaxed for best flavor.
- This tea is naturally caffeine-free and can be enjoyed any time of day.
