Description

Herb Compound Butter is a flavorful and versatile condiment made by mixing softened unsalted butter with fresh herbs and seasonings. This easy-to-make butter enhances the taste of breads, corn on the cob, baked potatoes, and many other dishes, adding a rich, aromatic touch to simple meals.

Ingredients

Garlic Chive Dill

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped dill
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives
  • ½ clove garlic, grated
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Lemon Thyme

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
  • ¼ teaspoon lemon zest
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • Pinch red pepper flakes

Honey Rosemary Sage

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped sage
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Sun Dried Tomato Basil

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped sun dried tomatoes
  • ½ garlic clove, grated
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a small bowl, thoroughly stir together the softened unsalted butter with the chosen herb combination ingredients, ensuring even distribution of herbs and seasonings throughout the butter.
  2. Form the Butter Log: Scoop the herb butter mixture onto a piece of parchment paper or plastic wrap. Roll the mixture into a tight log shape, then twist the ends of the paper or wrap to securely close the log.
  3. Chill Until Firm: Place the wrapped butter log in the refrigerator and chill overnight or until firm, allowing the flavors to meld and the butter to solidify for easy slicing and use.

Notes

  • If substituting vegan butter for unsalted butter, omit the sea salt in each recipe to avoid over-salting.
