Description

This Hot Honey Sauce is a versatile, sweet and spicy condiment that pairs perfectly with a variety of dishes. Combining the tangy heat of Louisiana hot sauce with the natural sweetness of honey and the richness of butter, you can make either a thinner or thicker version depending on your preference. It’s quick to prepare, requiring minimal ingredients and only about 18 minutes total time, making it an excellent addition to wings, fried foods, roasted vegetables, or as a drizzle on sandwiches.

Ingredients

For Hot Honey Sauce

  • 3/4 cup Louisiana hot sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 8 tablespoons salted butter (use 4 tablespoons for thicker sauce)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the hot sauce and honey mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together 3/4 cup Louisiana hot sauce and 1/2 cup honey until fully combined.
  2. Make a thinner sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 8 tablespoons salted butter until completely melted and very hot. Slowly whisk the melted butter into the hot sauce and honey mixture. The sauce should be fluid enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  3. Make a thicker sauce: In a saucepan set over medium-low heat, combine the hot sauce and honey mixture. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil and let it cook for about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.
  4. Add butter for thicker sauce: Stir 4 tablespoons of salted butter into the thickened hot sauce and honey mixture until melted and fully incorporated. The sauce should coat the back of a spoon and be slightly sticky in texture.

Notes

  • Use 8 tablespoons butter for a thinner sauce and 4 tablespoons for a thicker, slightly sticky consistency.
  • The sauce can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
  • Adjust the amount of hot sauce if you prefer it more or less spicy.
  • Make sure the butter is fully melted before mixing to ensure smooth texture.
  • This sauce contains milk due to the butter, so it is not dairy-free.
