Description

This Instant Pot Steel Cut Oats recipe is a quick, easy, and hands-off way to prepare perfectly cooked, creamy oatmeal. Made in just 35 minutes with minimal prep, it's a wholesome and nourishing breakfast option that can be customized with your favorite toppings like nuts, fresh fruit, and a drizzle of maple syrup for added sweetness.

Ingredients

Oats

  • 1 cup steel-cut oats
  • 2½ cups water

Toppings (Optional)

  • Almond butter
  • Blueberries
  • Banana slices
  • Chopped pecans
  • Chopped almonds
  • Hemp seeds
  • Maple syrup, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add 1 cup of steel-cut oats and 2½ cups of water into a 6-quart or smaller Instant Pot.
  2. Pressure Cook: Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and set it to Pressure Cook on High for 10 minutes.
  3. Natural Pressure Release: Allow the Instant Pot to release pressure naturally, which takes about 20 minutes. Wait until the float valve drops before opening the lid.
  4. Stir Oats: Remove the lid and stir the oats gently; expect some water separation, which is normal.
  5. Serve: Plate the cooked oats and add your choice of toppings such as almond butter, blueberries, banana slices, chopped nuts, hemp seeds, and optionally drizzle with maple syrup for sweetness.

Notes

  • Natural pressure release is important for creamy texture, so do not quick release.
  • You can double or halve the recipe, just adjust the cooking time accordingly if needed.
  • Add toppings after cooking to maintain their texture and freshness.
  • If you prefer thicker oats, reduce the water slightly.
  • This recipe works best with steel-cut oats, not rolled oats or instant oats.
