Description

This Oreo Dirt Cake is a delightfully nostalgic no-bake dessert featuring layers of creamy vanilla pudding, fluffy cream cheese and Cool Whip filling, and a rich Oreo crust. Perfect for parties or any occasion, this easy-to-make cake is chilled to set and topped with crushed Oreos for added texture and flavor. The combination of sweet pudding and crunchy cookie crumbs makes it a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Oreo Crust

  • 36 regular Oreos
  • 3 Tablespoons salted butter, melted

Layer 1

  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 5 Tablespoons salted butter, softened
  • ⅔ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip, thawed
  • 2 (3.9-ounce) boxes instant vanilla pudding
  • 2 ½ cups whole milk

Instructions

  1. Make the Oreo crust: Using a food processor or blender, pulse 36 whole Oreos into fine crumbs. Reserve ½ cup of these crumbs for topping. In a bowl, combine the remaining crumbs with 3 tablespoons melted butter until well mixed. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Chill in the freezer or refrigerator for 5 minutes to set.
  2. Prepare the cream cheese mixture: In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer to whip the softened cream cheese and 5 tablespoons softened butter together until fluffy. Add ⅔ cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Gently fold in 8 ounces thawed Cool Whip to combine evenly.
  3. Make the pudding layer: In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 boxes of instant vanilla pudding mix with 2 ½ cups whole milk until thickened. Let the pudding sit for a few minutes to fully thicken, then fold it into the cream cheese mixture carefully until well combined.
  4. Assemble the dirt cake: Spread the creamy filling evenly over the chilled Oreo crust, smoothing the top with a spatula. Sprinkle the reserved ½ cup of crushed Oreo crumbs evenly over the top of the filling.
  5. Chill and serve: Loosely cover the assembled cake with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to allow the layers to set. After chilling, cut into squares and serve. For best results, leave a comment and rating after making the recipe to share your experience!

Notes

  • Oreos: Keep the cream filling in the cookies when crushing for optimal flavor. Using a blender or food processor ensures fine crumbs.
  • Cool Whip: You can substitute with a homemade whipped topping if preferred.
  • Make ahead: This dessert can be made up to 24 hours in advance; avoid making it more than 48 hours ahead as the crust softens over time. Alternatively, assemble just before serving or keep layers separately until ready.
  • Variations: Change up pudding flavors such as cheesecake, chocolate, or white chocolate. Try serving in individual cups or add gummy worms for a fun twist for kids.
