Instructions
- Prepare the base mixture: In a Mason jar or any lidded jar, combine the rolled oats, chia seeds, ½ teaspoon maple syrup, a pinch of sea salt, and Greek yogurt if using. Stir well to mix all the ingredients evenly.
- Add almond milk: Pour ⅔ cup unsweetened almond milk over the oat mixture and stir thoroughly until well combined, ensuring there are no clumps of chia seeds at the bottom.
- Refrigerate overnight: Cover the jar with a lid and refrigerate overnight or up to 5 days to allow the oats and chia seeds to soften and absorb the liquid.
- Customize with variations: For Apple Pie oats, stir in applesauce and cinnamon into the base before refrigeration. For Chocolate Banana Bread, mix in mashed banana, cocoa powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg into the base. The Peach Crisp and PB&J variations do not require additions to the base mixture before refrigerating.
- Add toppings and serve: In the morning, add desired toppings for each variation: diced apples, pecans, and cinnamon apples for Apple Pie; peach slices and granola for Peach Crisp; chia jam, peanut butter, chopped strawberries, raspberries, and peanuts for PB&J; banana slices, chopped walnuts, and chocolate chips for Chocolate Banana Bread. Drizzle additional maple syrup if desired, then serve cold.
Notes
- Chia jam can be made by soaking chia seeds in pureed fruit until thickened, providing a healthy jelly alternative.
- Overnight oats can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, making them ideal for meal prep.
- You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less maple syrup according to your taste.
- For a dairy-free option, omit Greek yogurt or use a plant-based yogurt alternative.
