Description
A quick and easy recipe for pan fried cinnamon bananas using just three main ingredients. Perfect for turning slightly overripe bananas into a delicious breakfast or snack by slicing and cooking them in a skillet with a cinnamon-sugar blend and optional nutmeg.
Ingredients
Bananas
- 2 bananas (slightly overripe)
Spice Mixture
- 2 tablespoons sugar (or substitute such as granulated Splenda, brown sugar, or honey)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
Cooking
- Nonstick oil spray or butter (for cooking)
Instructions
- Slice Bananas: Slice the bananas into rounds approximately ⅓ inch thick to ensure even cooking and a tender texture.
- Mix Spices: In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, and optional nutmeg. Set this cinnamon-spice mixture aside for seasoning the bananas.
- Prepare Skillet: Lightly spray a large skillet with nonstick oil spray or melt a little butter, then warm it over medium-low heat for gentle cooking without burning.
- Cook First Side: Add the banana slices to the skillet and sprinkle half of the cinnamon mixture on top. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the bananas begin to soften and caramelize slightly.
- Flip and Season: Carefully flip the banana rounds and sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon mixture. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the bananas are soft, warmed through, and nicely coated with spices.
Notes
- Slightly overripe bananas work best; too ripe bananas may become mushy but still taste good.
- Watch carefully to avoid overcooking; bananas are done once soft.
- Use fresh, good quality oil or substitute with butter for better flavor. Coconut oil is a great option.
- You can substitute sugar with granulated Splenda, brown sugar, or honey.
- This pan-fried method is different from deep-frying; it uses minimal oil and produces a softer texture.
- Serve plain, with powdered sugar, over vanilla ice cream, or drizzle with chocolate syrup for extra indulgence.
