Description
This easy sautéed broccolini recipe is a perfect weeknight side dish, ready in just 15 minutes. It features tender broccolini sautéed with garlic and red pepper flakes, finished with a bright splash of fresh lemon juice for a flavorful and healthy accompaniment to any meal.
Ingredients
Vegetables
- 1 bunch broccolini, trimmed and halved lengthwise if thick (about 6 ounces)
Seasonings and Flavorings
- 3 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt, plus more to taste
- 2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
Oils and Liquids
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons water
Instructions
- Heat the oil and aromatics: Heat the extra-virgin olive oil in a large lidded skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant to infuse the oil.
- Add and toss broccolini: Add the trimmed and halved broccolini along with the sea salt to the skillet. Toss everything together to coat the broccolini evenly with the seasoned oil.
- Cook and steam: Continue to cook the broccolini over medium heat, tossing occasionally for about 2 minutes. Then add 2 tablespoons of water, cover the skillet, reduce the heat to low, and cook for 3 to 5 minutes more, tossing occasionally. This steams the broccolini until it's tender and bright green.
- Finish and season: Remove the skillet from heat. Toss the broccolini with fresh lemon juice and adjust the seasoning with additional salt if needed. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Trim broccolini stems and halve thick pieces to ensure even cooking.
- Adjust red pepper flakes according to your spice preference.
- Use fresh lemon juice for the brightest flavor.
- Cooking times may vary slightly depending on stove and skillet used; broccolini should be tender but still slightly crisp.
- This dish pairs well with grilled meats, fish, or as part of a vegetarian meal.
