Description
This sautéed cabbage recipe offers a simple and flavorful vegetable side dish that transforms cabbage into tender, caramelized goodness. Seasoned with garlic and apple cider vinegar, it delivers a perfect balance of sweet and savory flavor, ideal for pairing with a variety of main courses.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
- 1 small green cabbage, thinly sliced (about 1½ pounds)
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- Heat the oil and garlic: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced garlic and cook, stirring constantly, for about 30 seconds until fragrant but not browned, to infuse the oil with garlic flavor.
- Add the cabbage and seasonings: Add the thinly sliced cabbage to the skillet along with the sea salt and several grinds of freshly ground black pepper. Toss everything together and cook for about 2 minutes until the cabbage begins to soften, releasing some moisture.
- Add vinegar and finish cooking: Pour in the apple cider vinegar, toss the cabbage thoroughly, then continue cooking, stirring or tossing occasionally, until most of the liquid has evaporated and the cabbage is tender and nicely browned. This should take about 6 minutes. Adjust seasoning as needed before serving.
Notes
- Use a large skillet to ensure even cooking and prevent overcrowding.
- Adjust the amount of vinegar to taste; it adds a pleasant tang without overpowering.
- For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a splash of soy sauce.
- Serve immediately for best texture; leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated gently.
