Description

This summer Blackberry Basil Pizza is a delightful blend of sweet blackberries, fresh basil, and creamy mozzarella on a crispy multigrain crust. Perfect as a fresh main dish or appetizer, it combines simple ingredients to create a unique, flavorful meal ideal for warm weather dining.

Ingredients

Pizza Base

  • 1 ball of Whole Foods Market multigrain pizza dough, or homemade
  • 1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 minced garlic clove

Toppings

  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella bocconcini, sliced, divided
  • 1 pint organic blackberries, divided (slice large ones in half)
  • Lots and lots of fresh basil
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
  • Drizzle of honey
  • Pinches of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C), preparing it to achieve a crisp pizza crust.
  2. Prepare garlic oil: In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon of extra-virgin olive oil with the minced garlic clove to infuse the oil with fresh garlic flavor.
  3. Shape dough and add base toppings: Stretch the pizza dough onto a pizza stone or baking sheet. Brush the dough evenly with the prepared garlic oil to add aroma and moisture.
  4. Add initial toppings and bake: Spread three-quarters of the sliced mozzarella and blackberries evenly over the dough. Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 12 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese starts to melt.
  5. Finish toppings post-baking: Remove the pizza from the oven. Top with the remaining mozzarella, blackberries, and generous amounts of fresh basil leaves for a burst of flavor and color.
  6. Season and serve: Sprinkle a pinch of red pepper flakes and sea salt over the pizza. Drizzle with additional olive oil and honey to add a contrasting sweetness and richness. Slice into portions and serve immediately while warm.

Notes

  • For best results, use a pizza stone to help achieve a crispy crust.
  • Adjust the amount of honey and red pepper flakes to balance sweetness and spice to your preference.
  • If using large blackberries, slicing them helps distribute the flavor evenly and prevents overpowering bites.
  • This pizza is best eaten fresh out of the oven to enjoy the contrast of warm crust and fresh toppings.
