Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh or frozen strawberries, hulled and chopped
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, combine the hulled and chopped strawberries, maple syrup, fresh lemon juice, and vanilla extract.
- Simmer the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Cook Until Soft: Continue to cook for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the strawberries become soft, juicy, and the mixture starts to thicken slightly.
- Remove From Heat: Take the saucepan off the heat. Note that the compote will continue to thicken as it cools down.
- Serve Warm or Cold: Enjoy the compote warm or allow it to cool and serve cold as a delicious topping.

- Use fresh or frozen strawberries; if frozen, no need to thaw before cooking.
- The compote stores well in the refrigerator for up to one week in an airtight container.
- For a smoother texture, you can lightly mash the strawberries during cooking.
- Try serving with pancakes, yogurt, or as a filling for desserts.
